India Update August 27, 2010

Today is our last day of filming in India!  We have had an amazing time and are looking forward to being home as we continue production in Orange County.  We would like to share with you a few clips from our week that will play in this weekend’s services at Friends Church.

Producer’s Update August 23, 2010

We had a great day today – but a very sobering day. Matthew Cork joined us with his friend, John, from Canada. Seeing Matthew was great for our team and especially for me. Having him “on set” with us added a great energy for the day. Dr. Joseph D’Souza also joined us today as well. So much of what we are about with this movie is directly related to Joseph and OM. So, it was fantastic to have them all with us.

It was also a difficult day as we were also visited by four young women – 18, 19 and 30 (and a translator). These girls have all been rescued from a life of trafficking – one who started working at the early age of 11 years old. To sit and listen to their stories was extremely emotional but also amazing as they have all turned their hearts towards Jesus and now follow Him as Savior. What an awesome testimony of God turning what Satan intends for evil into His good! What courage these young women displayed during the interview and what freedom they now enjoy – both physically and spiritually.

These interviews were supposed to take an hour or so, but ended up taking over 3 hours. Here is the prayer request: we have A LOT of catch up work to do tomorrow. We need to film over 9 pages of script in 12 hours. We are starting at 6am – 5:30pm on your Monday evening. We need your prayers on our behalf. To accomplish this is seemingly impossible – these are the final scenes of the movie, the scenes where Caden finds and rescues Annika. We cannot rush these scenes, but we only have 12 hours. Please pray for God to increase our ability to work in unity, with focus and to accomplish much.

We know that the stories that we collected today are so important…in fact; they are the reason why we are here in the first place. To listen to these Dalit young women share their stories of betrayal, abuse and some of the worst things this world can throw at someone – and then to contrast this with the hope of Jesus in their lives is unbelievable. When you see the footage, you will understand! We are excited to come home and see you all soon…but our job isn’t finished here yet!  We want to finish strong!

Thank you and God bless!

Producer’s Update

Greetings from India!

We are in the middle of our second week of filming and it is hard to believe that we leave Hyderabad in two days. Much has been accomplished here and we are thankful for that. We have also faced major trials and setbacks, too. There is no doubt in my mind that Satan is fighting full force against us personally and against this project. Many of us are sick and trying to get better quickly. And yet, even in the midst of those trials and setbacks, God has continued to work all things together for His good.

I’m sure that I sound like a broken record, but to say that this has been the most difficult, yet most rewarding project I have ever worked on would be an understatement. Every day, I realize that only God could help us make this movie here in India. Every day, I am given opportunities where I have to choose to solve problems myself or to turn and ask God for His wisdom and direction. When I consider what we are doing here, it is truly so simple to lay down my preferences and those of the others on this team and ask God for his plan, since this is His movie.

I was able to sit and watch the footage from the first 5 days of filming earlier this week. It took 8 hours to get through all of it – multiple takes, angles, POV’s of the same scene, etc. – everything from a Bollywood dance in a night club to an emotional scene in a brothel. I want to let you know that God is giving us an amazing movie. Many times, goose bumps would roll up my arms as the scenes played on my computer. We have captured a beautiful story that tells the story of the Dalits and those that are enslaved here in India (and around the world). We will be a part of their voice. This movie will make a difference.

India itself is a beautiful nation and offers production value that we could never afford. Everywhere you look, the people, the clothing, the buildings, the streets are full of color and life. God has provided unique locations that we have been able to capture to share with the world. We are so blessed.

Yesterday, we shot our first brothel scene. As the busses arrived at our location, we saw 30 young girls (ranging from 7-18) from OM, beautifully dressed for the scene. My heart stopped as I realized that these girls, while only acting, embody the reason why we are here – trafficked Dalits, forced into unmentionable acts. It was overwhelming for me and I had to walk away for a moment to settle my heart. The evil that we are portraying is real. It is happening down the street from where we were filming. It is big business. What we are doing, what you have commissioned us to do, is beyond my ability to fully comprehend. Friends Church has not only walked into the darkness, but we have walked full force into the darkness. No wonder the attack has been so extreme – no wonder God’s victory is and will be so much more powerful.

If I had a full day with you, I could recount story after story of how God is blessing us – in the midst of the trials. Examples of His hand directing the rain to hold until we had finished shooting last night, working through contracts with actors/agents, developing a synergy with our Indian production services company, overcoming the language barrier, helping us to complete scenes when there seemed no possible way, etc.

Would you join me in thanking God for all of these things and also join me in praying for our continued protection, continued health and that we would continue to capture this story, God’s story, in a beautiful and compelling way. Pray that God will continue to go before us and prepare the way and that we would work quickly and accomplish much.

Thank you again for your continued support and prayers.
