Greetings from India!
We are in the middle of our second week of filming and it is hard to believe that we leave Hyderabad in two days. Much has been accomplished here and we are thankful for that. We have also faced major trials and setbacks, too. There is no doubt in my mind that Satan is fighting full force against us personally and against this project. Many of us are sick and trying to get better quickly. And yet, even in the midst of those trials and setbacks, God has continued to work all things together for His good.
I’m sure that I sound like a broken record, but to say that this has been the most difficult, yet most rewarding project I have ever worked on would be an understatement. Every day, I realize that only God could help us make this movie here in India. Every day, I am given opportunities where I have to choose to solve problems myself or to turn and ask God for His wisdom and direction. When I consider what we are doing here, it is truly so simple to lay down my preferences and those of the others on this team and ask God for his plan, since this is His movie.
I was able to sit and watch the footage from the first 5 days of filming earlier this week. It took 8 hours to get through all of it – multiple takes, angles, POV’s of the same scene, etc. – everything from a Bollywood dance in a night club to an emotional scene in a brothel. I want to let you know that God is giving us an amazing movie. Many times, goose bumps would roll up my arms as the scenes played on my computer. We have captured a beautiful story that tells the story of the Dalits and those that are enslaved here in India (and around the world). We will be a part of their voice. This movie will make a difference.
India itself is a beautiful nation and offers production value that we could never afford. Everywhere you look, the people, the clothing, the buildings, the streets are full of color and life. God has provided unique locations that we have been able to capture to share with the world. We are so blessed.
Yesterday, we shot our first brothel scene. As the busses arrived at our location, we saw 30 young girls (ranging from 7-18) from OM, beautifully dressed for the scene. My heart stopped as I realized that these girls, while only acting, embody the reason why we are here – trafficked Dalits, forced into unmentionable acts. It was overwhelming for me and I had to walk away for a moment to settle my heart. The evil that we are portraying is real. It is happening down the street from where we were filming. It is big business. What we are doing, what you have commissioned us to do, is beyond my ability to fully comprehend. Friends Church has not only walked into the darkness, but we have walked full force into the darkness. No wonder the attack has been so extreme – no wonder God’s victory is and will be so much more powerful.
If I had a full day with you, I could recount story after story of how God is blessing us – in the midst of the trials. Examples of His hand directing the rain to hold until we had finished shooting last night, working through contracts with actors/agents, developing a synergy with our Indian production services company, overcoming the language barrier, helping us to complete scenes when there seemed no possible way, etc.
Would you join me in thanking God for all of these things and also join me in praying for our continued protection, continued health and that we would continue to capture this story, God’s story, in a beautiful and compelling way. Pray that God will continue to go before us and prepare the way and that we would work quickly and accomplish much.
Thank you again for your continued support and prayers.
